Let’s make a super quick and easy corner bookmark today!
I’m guilty of dog-earing my books, or using random envelopes, postcards or old greeting cards to mark my last reading place in books.
However, I’ve started reading many more books from the library, and I can’t bring myself to dog-ear a publicly shared book, or risk leaving something personal in one of my borrowed books (all though thankfully, that hasn’t happened yet… I don’t think).
In the hopes of using up all my beautiful scrap fabrics, I’ve been trying to come up with ways to use it all up, and I’ve recently come across these beautiful corner bookmarks (check out these other scrap fabric projects I have: fabric twine, fabric twine coasters). So I decided to try making my own, and it came together surprisingly quickly.
It is perfect to use up small scraps, gift to a book loving friend, or (like me) just to organize your own reading.
Questions about this project
What fabric should I use for this project?
I’ve only used quilting cotton fabric or duck canvas. I would recommend sturdier, stiffer fabrics.
You may be able to use interfacing if the fabric you want to use isn’t as sturdy as cotton/duck canvas, though I haven’t personally tried this.
How much fabric do I need?
You will need 3 squares. I have made this project using 2inch squares, and 3inch squares, and I preferred how the 3 inch squares looked.
As long as you are using equally sized squares, you can play around with the size to suit your preference/needs.
How long will it take to make?
Once I had all the details figured out, I was able to finish this in around 10 minutes.
How big is my end project?
If you use the same dimensions as I have recommended, you finished bookmark will measure 2.5inches across, and 2.5 inches wide.

Items
- 3in by 3 inch squares (quilting cotton) x3
- Coordinating thread
- Sewing Machine
- Scissors/rotary cutter
- Cutting mat/cutting surface
- Something to push out corners (I use the end of a painting brush)
- A good book
Instructions
Cut out 3 3in by 3in squares
Picking up one of the bottom corners, fold it diagonally to the upper corner, wrong sides together, and press.
Sandwich the fabric together in the following manner:
- Square right side up 2. Triangle on top with right side up, and raw edges aligned 3. Square fabric wrong side up
Pin fabric
Sew with a 0.25in seam allowance, leaving a 2 inch gap so you can turn right way around
Clip corners, and cut any excess seam allowance (the trimming of the seam allowance is an optional step)
Turn bookmark inside out, using the end of a paintbrush to push out the corners.
Tuck in excess fabric and press
Clip/pin gap in place.
Top stitch as close to the edge as possible
Congratulations! You just made a corner bookmark!
